Here’s the question now: how confident are you the Vols will go 3-0 the next three weeks?

That starts this week with Mizzou, who was blown out 40-12 at Kansas State in week two. The Wildcats are #23 in the land this week, so we probably weren’t giving them enough credit back then. Since then, Missouri has four one-possession losses to Auburn, Georgia, Florida, and Kentucky. The Tigers also beat Vanderbilt 17-14, and won at South Carolina in their best performance, 23-10. In each of those six SEC games, the Tigers scored between 17-23 points, and gave up between 10-26 points.

Much of the conversation about Tennessee will come into picture once we see the playoff poll tomorrow night. There are no opportunities left for quality wins on Tennessee’s regular season schedule (unless South Carolina beats Florida and Clemson on the way in, but that might get in the way of Florida becoming a quality win if they win out). But if Tennessee’s resume was good enough for #1 last week, one would assume it’s not going to fall so far to remove the Vols from the conversation this week.

Just keep winning.

As a long time Vol, I’m always concerned about the finish line. We have now seen presumably “the floor” against a 5 star laden D away from home. Let’s get that offense going again against a formidable Mizzou D and then on the road in a hostile environment against USC. Go Big Orange !

Totally legit. Mizzou and USC have both challenged great teams, and it would be easy to let the #1 ranking go to our head and have these be letdown games. Also, the Georgia game may have revealed some weaknesses Mizzou and USC can exploit. Hopefully the Vols keep things up and finish strong and we get to go to an NY6 bowl game. But I’m not counting any chickens before they hatch.

I don’t think the Ga. game revealed any weaknesses, unless you have Ga. talent. Which nobody else we will play has, in my opinion. If we were to make the playoffs, is there another team we would play with their talent on defense? I don’t think so.

Both Missouri and USC have shown some life against tough opponents. I hope this team doesn’t forget they still have a lot to fight for – the best UT season in most of their lifetimes!

Having guzzled too much orange Kool Aid before last week’s “Game of the Century,” I’m tempering my expectations. My conservative 10.4 breaks down as follows: vs Missouri: 75% at South Carolina: 75% at Vanderbilt: 85% None of these teams can match UT’s talent, but all three (even Vandy) have shown flashes this year. Missouri came a lot closer to beating Georgia than we did. Now that all the over-hyping is behind them, I hope the Vols can focus on winning the games they ought to win while their playoff competitors knock each other off. Three solid victories should give them… Read more »

Your expected win total is 10.7.Your details: vs Missouri: 90% at South Carolina: 85% at Vanderbilt: 95% Missouri I don’t see the Vols with a let down. In fact I see the opposite with so much to play for. Despite Missouri’s defense being improved this year they haven’t faced a true potent offense like Tennessee’s. They won’t be able to mimic what UGA did without being able to out talent Tennessee. Last, Missouri has only scored above 20 twice this year against P5 opponents. Tennessee wins and covers 42-20 South Carolina This one worries me the most out of the remaining… Read more »
