Life preempted the preview podcast scheduled for Thursday this week, so I thought we would do something new this morning. We can’t have all of you on the podcast, but we can have the same discussion here. Let’s call it a reverse mailbag. Please share your thoughts in the comment section below.

1. Just how important is a contagious Jauan Jennings focused on infecting his teammates with passion?

If you missed it, go watch Jennings’ interview from earlier this week. If energy is a problem for this team, then Jennings may be the cure. No one doubts that his fire is unquenchable; the question is whether and how fast it can spread among his teammates once he decides to prioritize making it happen.

How much better does it make you feel to see Jennings taking the reins?

2. Is the BYU game a must-win for the Vols?

There’s been some talk about this being a must-win for the Vols. Is it, really? If so, is it a must-win just for the 2019 season or do you think it’s possibly even more important than that?

3. What do you most want to see out of the team this Saturday against BYU?

A little defense? Fewer mistakes than the other team? Fight? Heart? What’s at the top of your list?

We’d love to hear your thoughts below.

1. Just how important is a contagious Jauan Jennings focused on infecting his teammates with passion? It’s obviously important, but the sub-question (How much better does it make you feel to see Jennings taking the reins?) makes me ask a question of my own: why did it take a loss to a 2-10 Sun Belt team for us to see this? We obviously don’t know what goes on behind closed doors so maybe he has been this angry for weeks/months, but after what we saw Saturday I’m not sure what is accomplished by Jauan being fired up NOW. I mean,… Read more »

1. I think it’s important but not as important as seeing some passion out of guarantano. he looked like he didn’t care last week. jennings can be as energetic as he wants but it won’t matter if jg can’t run the offense with some effort and energy. 2. it’s not a must win but it is a “can’t lose .” somebody mentioned it on another article, but can you imagine the utc game if we lose? I’m a diehard fan but i wouldn’t even turn into that game on tv. 3. anything that shows me the players and coaches care.… Read more »

1. It’s very important for Jennings to light a fire in this team. Shocking, or maybe more disappointing, that the coaches aren’t bringing the intensity and passion. So it’s important that somebody brings the emotion and I’m glad that guy is Jennings. I think his attitude is already taking positive effect with Murphy and Bailey leaving the program. It shows that there were people not bought into this program and without their negative attitudes to conflict and divide the team maybe we’ll see a Vols team all on the same page. Still don’t understand why the coaches aren’t taking the… Read more »

1) If Jennings is respected by his teammates, it will be critical for him to step up as a leader… it is vitally important that a reasonably vocal leader emerge and push the Team forward. Otherwise… they may continue to flounder. 2) BYU is a must win to re-establish momentum toward 2019 Goals and demonstrate on-field improvement by a well coached team for recruiting… if they are blown out, Pruitt will be dangerously close to losing this Team/Season. 3) DEFENSE… few if any missed assignments. Secondly… a solid running game for more offensive balance.

Go Vols!!

1) check
2) 0
3) DEFENSE – almost, OFFENSE – run game solid… JG turned into a liability and we became one dimensional

Buckle your seat belts, this is going to be rough ride. Go Vols!

I only have an opinion about the second question. “Must” always seemed like a silly concept in sports to me. What do you do if you don’t score on a drive where you “must”? Do you just stop playing the game? If you don’t win a “must win” game, do you just end the football program? It does seem like it will be hard to get the season back on track without beating BYU, but a win against, say, Florida would fix everything pretty quickly. I think losing just makes having a successful season much harder, but until they are… Read more »

1. I think it’s very important for the team to have leaders, and if Jauan Jennings is the guy who is willing to step up and provide that leadership, I’m happy to see it. 2. While a win would go a long way toward making this season more enjoyable, I don’t think it’s a “must-win”. If the Vols lose, the sun will still rise on Sunday morning. 3. I am dying to see this team play a complete game with fight and a desire to win from start to finish. For myself personally, this is a “must” much more than… Read more »
